Radiological Outcome of Patients with Splay Foot Following 1st and 5th Metatarsal Osteotomies Performed Simultaneously on the Same Foot

چکیده
Introduction: There have been many operations documented for the treatment of hallux valgus and 5th metatarsal bunionette deformities in splay foot patients done separately with variable success rates. Our aim was to radiologically assess outcome following both chevrons osteotomy to the 1st and reverse chevrons osteotomy to the 5th metatarsals in symptomatic patients with splay foot. To our knowledge, this procedure has not been described in the literature. Materials and Methods: 9 symptomatic patients (12 feet) were included in the study. The pre-operative and post-operative angles were assessed on weight bearing X-rays for statistical significance using non-parametric paired T tests. Results: Hallux valgus angles, intermetatarsal angles, 1st and 5th metatarsal head widths, and maximum distance between 1st and 5th metatarsals head all have significantly decreased post-operatively (p< 0.05). Conclusion: The results suggest a very good radiological outcome in symptomatic patients following simultaneous 1st and 5th metatarsal osteotomies. All the angles measured except for the DMAA showed a statistically significant reduction postoperatively.

Aims and background: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of rehabilitation period with elastic training on frequency spectrum of foot forces in females with low back pain during walking. Materials and methods: The sample of this study included 20 girls with low back pain. The experimental group did elastic gait training for 6 weeks. Peak plantar forces during both pre and post...
متن کاملPosterior-anterior body weight shift during stance period studied by measuring sole-floor reaction forces during healthy and hemiplegic human walking.
Posterior-anterior body weight shift during stance phase of human overground locomotion was investigated by recording sole-floor reaction force from five anatomically discrete points with strain gauge transducers of 14 mm diameter attached firmly to the sole of bare foot. At first the subject was asked to walk straight on the laboratory floor at his/her preferred velocity. Then the subject was ...
متن کاملA Case Report of Floating Metatarsal: Concomitant Dislocation of the Tarsometatarsal and Metatarsophlangeal Joints of the Second Toe
An extremely rare case of floating second metatarsal is reported. The reported case is a young man with simultaneous dislocation of tarsometatarsal and metatarsophalangeal joints of the second metatars following a car accident. Because of patient's discontent for open surgery, blind percutaneus pinning was performed that was not completely successful and in follow up radiography, 18 months late...
متن کاملThe effect of gender on foot anthropometrics in older people.
CONTEXT Some questions remain regarding the anthropometric differences between the feet of young men and women, but the gap is much greater when dealing with older adults. No studies were found concerning these differences in an exclusively older adult population, which makes it difficult to manufacture shoes based on the specific anthropometric measurements of the older adult population and ac...
متن کاملCheck the appropriate length of metatarsal pad On the reduction of Diabetic foot ulcer mechanical parameters while walking
Background: Standard prevention and treatment strategies to decrease peak plantar pressure include a total contact insert with a metatarsal pad, but no clear guidelines exist to determine optimal length of the pad with respect to the metatarsal head. The purpose of this study was to Check the appropriate length of metatarsal pad On the reduction of Diabetic foot ulcer mechanical parameters whil...
